For a flat or a home behind a communal door, identifying the right entrance keeps the enquiry straightforward. You may be able to enter the building but not your own accommodation, or the shared outer lock may be the problem. Those are different jobs with potentially different approval arrangements.
Make clear which door you can authorise work on. A shared entrance can involve a building manager, landlord or access system, and a private key does not automatically give permission to change it. Mention any specialist equipment or escape-door function at the beginning. If the job concerns your own front door, describe its lock and whether you have working keys.
A key that catches or a handle that has become loose is worth asking about before it stops working altogether. Note when the fault began and whether it occurs every time. If someone else will meet the locksmith, explain the agreed task and make sure they can approve it. Ask whether the quote is for an assessment, a defined repair or replacement hardware.
